Time Travller’s Podcast ft Samuel Marsden

For this activity our challenge was to interveiw Samuel Marsden on a podcast. We had used our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Samuel Marsden as if we were talking to him. On Adobe Express we used the Podcast tool to record our voices and script we collaborated together and had created. Our group all had roles so Armani and Amorangi was Samuel Marsden, and the hosts were Jaeliyah, Hasna, and Valencia. I really enjoyed doing this activity because we all got to ask each other questions and answer them. We also all collabrated in this activity.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For our task we learnt about the Kuaka bird and how thhey migrate. When I was on google I had to find out how far the Kuaka migrate. We all know we got a lot of questions why can’t the kuaka bird just stay in one place around New Zealand. The food that that the Kuaka bird eats is Worms , Shellfish and Insects they usually eat it around Coastal Areas like beaches. They also stop t0 refuel around New Zealand for breeding grounds. A interesting fact about the Kuaka bird is that they fly up to 11,000 kilometers from Alaska to New Zealand.

The Kuaka

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

For our task we had to make a infographic about the Kuaka Bird. Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka is that the Kuaka bird can migrate 11,000 km non-stop from Arctic to New Zealand.

Dot to Dot Connections: The Kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For our task, we created a Dot to Dot Connections of the Kuaka. Something our group found interesting about doing this task is that we had to find 7 words that connect with each and Dot to Dot Connections. And we got to learn abouthwo the kuaka migrate from New Zealand to Alaska.

Photo Story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling

Our Task was to create a Photo story  of our hikoi to Pt England Researve by showing images from the walk. I enjoyed the walk beacause we got to g0 on a river walk with the whole senior block from school and we had got to play sports and have fun with our friends.

Preventing Kauri Dieback

LI: To understand how we can help prevent Kauri Dieback disease and why we need to do this.

One of our challenegs at camp was to walk the Cossey- Massey track at Hunua. Before we entered the bush we had to make sure our shoes were disinfected. This DLO tells why we needed to do this and why we need to help prevent the spread of Kauri Dieback.

I think this is an important message to share because we don’t want the disease to spread and we don’t want all our Kauri tress dying, it is very important we stay aware of the Kauri Dieback.

What learning should look like in LS2

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2

Our challenge today was to co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2. We thought about what we expected to happen so we could make teh most of our learning time then thought about what our teachers expected.

I collaborated with my group which I enjoyed because we all had open ideas and we all were included.

This activity was really enjoyable because it was my first time making a Expectations list in a group with new people.

Working in groups

LI: To understand that everyone has a role to play when we are working in groups

In LS2 we learn best when we learn with and from ecah other by sharing our work and ideas. What your responsibility as a group member is to understand each other and talk about the Kuaka. How working in a group helped you understand more about the kuaka. Something I enjoyed about working in groups is being confident to share and letting eveyone speack.

Who was Samuel Marsden?

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out who Samuel Marsden was and what he is known for.

We used our smart searching skills to research facts about Samuel Marsden. To make sure our facts were correct we used three different websites. The websites I used were Google, Wikipedia, and Te Ara Encyclopedia of New Zealand.

Something interesting I found out about Samuel marsden was that he was an english born priest of the church of England in Australia and a promoted member of the church missionary. He was a big leading role in bringing christianity to New Zealand.

I learnt its is important to use my own words because I learn much better using my own words than copying.

What did Samuel Marsden see?

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

We used Adobe Express to think about what Samuel Marsden saw when he came to New Zealand and put it on AI. We developed skills by using Adobe Express by picturing what Samuel Marsden saw.
